新元号「令和」とは？　What does new era “Reiwa” mean?

A new 元号, which is a name of Japan's era, was announced the other day. The name is 令和（れいわ、Reiwa, no Leiwa） which is quoted from the oldest Japanese poetry, 万葉集（まんようしゅう、Man-yo-shu）. I didn't like it when I heard the name for the first time but I wrote the word repeatedly. 

令和令和令和令和令和令和令和令和令和令和.... 

See? I've come to like the name. 

And then I focused on the meaning of the new name. 

令（れい, Rei） for 令月（れいげつ, Reigetsu） means “A month on which everything you do will be fine.”

和（わ, Wa） for 平和（へいわ、Heiwa） mean calm, peace, good relationship and making up after fighting. 

It's said that 令和 contains the feelings that many cultures grow up with people gathering with warm hearts. 

I hope all Japanese in Japan and people in the world have a wonderful time and everything is fine in peace. 

The new 元号 will be starting from May 1st as 令和元年. 

令和元年令和元年令和元年令和元年令和元年....

日本の新しい元号が先日、「令和」と発表されましたね。

「令和」とは、日本最古の歌集「万葉集」から引用されています。

最初聞いたときはちょっと違和感があったんですが、繰り返し書いてみるとだんだん好きになってきました。

令和令和令和令和令和令和令和令和令和令和令和令和…

ね？なじんでくるでしょ？w 

次に、この「令和」に込められた意味を考えてみました。

令は令月から取っており、令月とは、「何をやっても上手くゆく月」のことだそうです。

和は、平和の和。

そして令和とは「人々が美しく心を寄せ合う中で文化が生まれ育つ」という意味が込められているんだそうです。

日本の人たち、そして世界中の人たちが平和で素晴らしい日々を過ごせたらいいなと思います。

新しい元号は、5月1日から「令和元年」として始まります。
